In Carole's Name
Alderney Animal Welfare Society fully recognise how pets enrich our lives and how much importance we place on their care. We want to give island pet owners as much support and reassurance that in the event of their illness or death that their pets will be well cared for.
If a pet owner suddenly takes ill or is hospitalized and unable to care for their pet, please contact the Alderney Animal Welfare Clinic.
If the hospitalisation is planned and you feel you will need help in caring for your pet make us aware of dates etc. You can make the call yourself or a friend or family member can speak on your behalf with the Nurses to get plans in place as to how we can work with you to support you and your pet’(s).
If a friend or family member with pets dies and there is no one in the family able to care for the pets again, please contact Alderney Animal Welfare us.
Information about In Carole’s Name has been circulated to the island’s Medical and Domiciliary Care Teams
Many people will fondly remember the lovely Carole Uzzell, a wonderful animal mad Alderney resident who sadly died very suddenly leaving behind several much loved family pets. Carole served as a very enthusiastic member of Alderney Animal Welfare Committee and her focus was always about caring for the island’s animals. Carole’s Committee friends knew how very important her pets were to Carole and worked tirelessly to ensure all her pets were well cared for and eventually rehomed into kind loving homes that they knew Carole would have whole heartedly approved off.
With the blessing of Carole’s family, Alderney Animal Welfare Society has committed to In Carole’s Name an initiative designed to support the island community and provide pet care in the event of illness or death of the owner.
It is designed to reflect and endorse Alderney Animal Welfare Society’s role in supporting residents and caring for the island’s animals.
We will assess the situation and put a Pet Care Package in place for as short or as long as support is required. The Pet Care Package can be as simple as arranging to feed / walk your pet or to arrange collection and have the pet fostered / boarded while support is required.
While the pet owner is returning to better health, we can continue to support reducing the Pet Care Package as appropriate until the pet owner is fully able to manage again.
In the sad event of the death of a pet owner and there is no one in the family to assume their care we can arrange fostering and rehoming. Every care will be taken to ensure the new home is the right home and will consider the age, breed and needs of the individual pet.
If you would like to know more, please email on: kkissickvn@aol.com and a Committee Member will call to discuss with you.
